alphys says the point of her experiments was to create a monster who could open the barrier by injecting it with determination. but the monsters she was injecting didnt work for it because their bodies were too soft, made of dust or whatever it is, so they melted and made the amalgamates.

so, the determination experiment might hypothetically work if it was done on a monster with a strong enough body to not melt, such as mettaton properly bonded to his body, or i guess any robot as in your theory.

this kind of doesnt work if deltarune monsters are different to undertale monsters, though.
