Putin: "We talked about banning propaganda, that’s all — we never talked about banning non-traditional relationships. On the contrary, we have always believed that all people should be equal. Some truths, though:

▪ In 2017, activist Yevgeny Suchkov was fined 50,000 rubles (~$800) for posting a photo with a rainbow flag on social media.

▪ Films featuring LGBT characters, such as Rocketman (2019) and the series Euphoria, were censored or denied distribution licenses in Russia due to alleged "LGBT propaganda."

▪ The publishing house AST censored Roberto Carnero’s book Pasolini: Dying for One's Own Ideas for containing "LGBT and gender transition propaganda."

▪ In 2020, an investigation was launched into an advertisement for Rainbow ice cream by the company Chistaya Liniya, which was accused of promoting "gay propaganda."

▪ In 2023, a resident of Volgograd was fined 100,000 rubles (~$1,100) under the "LGBT propaganda" law for his dating profile.

▪ The designation of the "international LGBT movement" as extremist — 2023.

▪ In 2024, a woman in Nizhny Novgorod was placed in a pre-trial detention center for wearing colorful earrings.
