It's inevitable that Marvel and DC will close their comics departments, it's just a matter of when.
They do not promote their comics at all, indicating that at a business level, it is not considered important. The company is currently doing well right now, but big companies are volatile and routinely go through periods of upscaling and downscaling. Their comic departments will be victims of this future downscaling.

Currently the vast majority of people who buy comics are hardcore loyal fans, who are not really interested in the comics from any objective standpoint but simply it has become a habit or collection. They've been buying comics for 50 years why should they stop now? There are virtually no new customers. When Marvel and DC die, they will not shift to anything new but rather will leave the market entirely.
However this is not a major loss since the number of these people, despite being the majority of customers, are an insignificantly small market.
