Celestia's conflict in Triptych isn't very flashy, but it's there. At the start of the story, she's become untethered from her millennium long role as Equestria's sole ruler, no longer sure of what to do. She decided that she has to relearn what it means to be a Princess of Equestria, rather than the Princess of Equestria, so she goes on a quest to learn about her own nature as a goddess by interrogating her peers. She learns that she's changed what she is by indirectly ascending Twilight, and comes back ready to retake the throne, while sharing it.
I'll also add that any real depth those conversations she has comes from the way they're different from each other rather than the conversation itself in isolation. That's mirrored in the worldbuilding: how will each locale Daetrin brings us to differ from the last? Those are what's most fun about reading her journey.
As for the Tuna, it's not exactly comedic. Part of it is Luna interviewing her subjects and trying to be a better princess, another part of it is Twilight fucking up a spell and mind controlling the entirety of Equestria for a little while, and then Chrysalis shows up.
Anyway, Triptych is just really different from Daetrin's other stories.
