The designs for most of those figures were provide by Mirage, anon. Playmates gave them commission for providing figure designs and Laird and Eastman arranged for Mirage artists to handle as much as they could to get them extra pay. Laird even did concept art for the early figures.
Some of the unused designs were REALLY out there,too.
