But the biggest problem was the cast. Everyone is some variation of average to ugly looking. The chemistry is non-existent. Pascal continues playing himself. He and Kirby have 0 chemistry between them, and she plays better off Quinn. The Ben guy looks like he wants to die in every interview and that carries over in a lifeless performance. But they don't feel like this supposedly close-knit family unit, especially since they're supposed to be years into the job. They are more like coworkers acting like they're pals than anything else. So the whole "cutesy" aspect is shut down, and without any cool factor, of them being handsome and ultra-competent fantasy scientists, you're not left with anything. It's just a generic capeflick where the big bad giant comes in at the end of the third act, fumbles around like a retarded Godzilla, is basically punched to submission and that's it, the movie ends.
FF needs a great a cast to carry it, and also wondrous visuals and imagination. The budgets don't allow for such spectacle, and so you're left with a great cast, which they completely fumbled. They needed a hot woman for Sue, a hot guy for Johnny and an authoritative and handsome white man for Reed who comes off as the world's smartest man. Fagscal literally has no air of authority around him, the man stands and gawks like a moron. It's telling that everyone they courted passed on it because the script was abysmal and Reed basically comes off as a retard who doesn't even have the stones to be the leader. It's a very Sue-centric iteration so it's no wonder they couldn't attract any genuine talent. And that's what killed it. Capeflicks made bank with hot stars and good action. Remove all that, and nobody cares.
The hilarious thing is that in 10 minutes I can write a better premise and incorporate them into the MCU. They should've just dropped more money at Gyllenhaal or Driver, or at the very least went with a younger cast like that You guy. The casting killed it.
