The reason not playing the games is humiliating to them is because they KNOW Sonic is a video game franchise. Everything else, the comics, the movies, the cartoons, they're all derivatives that exist solely because the games were and are successful. When you strip away that foundation, you're left with nothing but fanfiction-tier interpretations that have no real weight behind them.
Anti-windfags are acutely aware of this hierarchy, which is why they're so insecure (and thus aggressive) about it. They know their preferred characterizations are built on shaky ground. Their comics are literally just licensed advertisements that take liberties with characters they didn't create, and anti-windfags have to live with the fact that their "versions" of Sonic are essentially expensive fanfiction that could be retconned at any moment by daddy SoJ.
That's why they never openly admit they prefer the comics. They know it makes them look like secondary fans who latched onto inferior products.
Instead, they try to chip away at windfags (gamefags) from the shadows, concern trolling about how "Windfags are forcing things on us and harassing us" while never actually defending their preferred Sonic interpretations on their own merits. Because they can't. What are they gonna say? "Sonic should act like a condescending quip-machine faggot because Ian said so"? Lol, lmao.
