in Iran the war had the effect of cementing the new Shia rule. they proved they were serious. maybe they weren't that serious in 1979 and just wanted the Shah gone, but after Iraq invaded, they had no chance but to be serious. now they are still in power. that's because of the war and they still keep having wars, they can't stop.
