they are different chemical compounds. Supposedly green should be changed every two years.
Orange can be 5 - 8 years...but I wouldn't do that. Use whatever your OEM recommends. Don't mix them ever. Sludge is usually due to mixing them or using the wrong "color" and it's corroding something and creating sludge.
