>he doesn't know
>they became the fathers of music, metallurgy, """and nomadic herding"""
The Son's of Abel(Yaweh) are the pastoral nomads, most likely of the Sinai. The "Death" is probably symbolic of representative of persecution/slavery that those groups used to suffer from more advanced urban cultures(such as Egyptian or Phonecian city states and principalities). You see this reflected also in Moses legend during their exodus and captivity at the hands of people who aren't even what most consider "Caananite".
It's stated biblically that the Israelites invaded and subdued the Caananites; But a slave or "migrant worker" revolt could be just as likely. The legend represents something that happened either shortly before or after such things took place, it's a timepiece and the context is gleamed from the other books. It's no different from modern times where those who win write and determine the cultural context; Or the authors bias shining through(in this case it's obvious who).
Don't be foolish enough to think that those mantling older or archetypal forces are actually those forces. This is mythic and not literal as in the case of other books with pseudo historical backing/context.
