Since you're new I'd rip enough silver bells to at least get 1 XXL off the banner and unlock the XXL selector and daily free silver bell pull at 88 pulls. I have no idea if new accounts are still able to get that 7th day free XXL choice between Kyrian Meng and Beernox but if you do you can coast off the game with any of those 3 supports. (Beernox the best choice at the moment)
As for gold bells, save them for a future character you like >>1781688
Buying bells in the daily market for gems is the right thing to do, but of course prioritize gold over silver.
Other than that, save your gems for the gold bell packs in the mall since those refresh every 2 weeks whenever a new banner drops.
Remember that characters like Baade who had their banner end already and Locke who is leaving in 6 days will be permabanner units in the future and can be pulled with silver bells, so no need to break the bank on gold bells unless you don't want to wait.
Think that's about it? Honestly have fun with the game, I don't know if you'll be into hardcore pullmaxxing if you're just looking for a quick jerk, but this is how most people are prepping their pulls for the future characters.
