Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the writers shouldve done something else instead of just having him abandon the "costume", I just disagree with what the character did. I think it's ok and kinda cool to fundamentally disagree with a character you enjoy from time to time. He was under lots of stress - from dealing with Mary Jane, Jean Dewolff, AND the Black Cat, trying to figure out what The Hobgoblins game was and WHO he was (and the same thing with The Rose), Aunt May was pestering him about dropping out of college to be a photographer full time and her health wasn't the best (as usual0, he was behind on his bills (as usual)
Learning his costume was alive was a win in a way, because it gave him a problem he could immediately solve. Had he made that discovery at any other time I feel he would've acted with more curiosity and enthusiasm, and tried to communicate with it, realizing it'd really only been helping him the whole time. It ties back to his whole "great power, great responsibility" thing too. He freed it from its prison and brought it to Earth - it was his responsibility, but the first chance he got he abandoned it and ended up creating one of his worst enemies. This is much better than in other adaptations where he only gets rid of it because its corrupting him, which is a weaker story imo, and doesn't allow for him to be flawed and make mistakes like the "everyman" he's always billed as should
