I was just wondering, why did the first season feel objectively better than the second? What changed? I mean, was it really the gay drama that ruined the show's quality, or was there something else?

Honestly, this is the worst short so far. It didn't even have any jokes or anything interesting going on, just the expectation that cheap Ned Flanders was secretly a nasty guy. And while I'm glad that wasn't the case, the ending isn't any better either. I mean, what was the point of all this then?
