Unfortunately this is a big part of it. Most "anime fans" that comprise western fandoms nowadays just watch dubbed garbage on Netflix. If a show isn't dubbed on Netflix, it basically doesn't exist to them. I was visiting my sister and her husband recently and I tried to get them into Thunderbolt Fantasy, and they turned it off literally after 20 seconds because it doesn't have an English dub, didn't even want to give a single episode a try. Admittedly, TBF would be a difficult sell even if it was dubbed
