Fujimoto said he left things vague on purpose at the end of the P1 because they already had him working on the idea for a P2 by vol 6. That's why so many concepts were introduced at the end of P1 without much elaboration.
I do think P2 will answer atleast the origin of Pochita and some of the mysteries about what makes "eating" such a special thing in the CSM universe, as the major antagonist Death is also prone to eating people (and having them magically disappear despite having no stomach).
