That's because loot acquisition in WoW is outdated and frustrating. But that's a different story.
I started playing a month ago and currently my gear looks like this. Half of my items are crafted. I didn't run dungeons to find loot, I didn't care about dungeon loot at all: I only needed crests to then craft whatever I wanted.

They should either nerf crafting, or integrate it better with the rest of the content so it doesn't replace it entirely.

I don't do professions at all, I just type in trade chat whenever I need to craft something.
