Personally I think he's a little too carefree to mesh well with some of the more serious-minded girls, like Azula or Mai. Tyang makes sense to me, though, especially since she's got gymnast octoplet level fertility so they can get that airbender repopulation project in the fast lane.
Katara is on the edge, but she's super idealistic and thinks in terms of emotions much like Aang does, so it still works IMO. Not the most fun ship, but it's functional.

Why do people keep saying this? It's the only canon couple in the show (other than SokkaXYue) that managed to feel genuinely sweet, instead of just "Oh, good for them".
