Many anime conventions have after-hours bars and club events, but I imagine 70% of the male convention attendees think, 'I'm totally going to find a cute girl and chat her up, if I don't score, I'll at least get her Discord username.' So, the result is a room full of under-socialized, sweaty guys listening to techno video game remixes. I'm sure all the cute girls came with their bfs anyway.

Anyway, even if the odds of finding your gf at an anime convention are low, you can still have fun ogling cosplayers.
