Yeah Mary-Sue was a child genius character who stunned the federation crew with her intellect, and if I remember correctly even the characters that disliked her came around to liking her or gave her begrudging respect?
I remember that being a detail, because that comes up in arguments a lot, when people write Mary-Sue characters they say it's not a "real" Mary-Sue because they're not universally loved, even though there's plenty of narcissistic reasons to strawman characters or real people you don't like, and portray their dislike of your self-insert character as unreasonable.
