Yeah, it's pretty awful. I remember growing up in a small town, I'd read D&D novels (TSR) and make up characters, draw maps, imagine one day getting to actually share my imagination with other players. Fast forward about 10 years, finally getting a game group as an adult. Rules lawyers, power building man children, roll playing over role playing, non-existent in character interaction... I dropped after a few years when meeting with these people just felt like a chore. Their noisy, mouth-breathing, mukbang face stuffing and greasy antics just became too much for me. Most of them were genuinely nice people, but trying to "role play" with them was fucking pointless. I can only imagine how much worse it is now with the canonically woke 5e, advanced freak-shit, critical role neophytes and other such fuckery. It was bad enough 10 years ago.
