Yeah, laptops aren't ideal for gaming, but if you need portability you don't really have a choice.
I've got an old ASUS laptop with an i7 CPU, 16 gigs of RAM, and a RTX 2080. It chugs along pretty well, all things considered. The main issue is how shit devs have become at optimizing performance, especially with AAA games. The last properly optimized big-budget title I played was Doom Eternal, and in that I could put everything at max and still get 60 FPS through 95% of the game. Still, if you're mainly playing indie and older games you don't need much. Hell, even my rig is overkill for most of the stuff I play.
