>Be more specific and I actually might.
It's a remarkably gentle, down to earth biopic about an elderly farmer from Iowa who goes to visit his estranged dying brother in Wisconsin by driving his lawnmower all the way given he's not allowed to drive a car. Along the way, he encounters various eccentric but grounded characters as he stops by, breaks down, and deals with all the stuff you'd expect to deal with being a mega-oldfag driving a lawnmower down state highways in the Upper Midwest.
All the people he encounters are stoic, decent, mild-mannered, plain-spoken, and helpful, though they all have various quirks and forms of pettiness that are very specific to the people that live in that part of the country.
As somebody that grew up in the Minnesota and an avid reader of the literature associated with and from that region, I can say it is undoubtedly the best film ever made about the rural Upper Midwest. All the characters and landscapes are rendered as fully and realistically as possible; with stark, frank dialogue reminiscient of Hemingway and some remarkably emotional passages that sneak up on you.
It's an against type film in Lynch's filmography, and arguably his best given it shows off an incredible knack for storytelling with sparse dialogue, rich cinematography, and incredibly realistic and respectful characterizations of the people in that area, all the more impressive given he's not from the Upper Midwest.
