If we also then add the old M993 test report to the mix (pic rel), we see again that the Colossus... used to do better BFD-wise versus the more recent test report. This one is 6.48lb, 9.5x11.5", so it's slightly undersized and very slightly underweight. Nonetheless, it starts in the twenties just as the 2/8/22 Colossus did v. swiss p, versus the 12/24 Colossus starting out at 30.56mm BFD against swiss p, raising to an N/A (>44mm?) and a 43.6 at the end. Yes, M993 is an easier threat than Swiss P AP, but not astronomically and threat level does not always correlate directly to BFD. See how the RMA XRT nearly bombs BFD against M80 but is cleaner against B-32 API on RMA's own reports.
So while, yeah, I'm nitpicking, it is evident that the Colossus is not a super consistent plate and there are notable manufacturing variances even among plates that are sent to affiliate youtubers and test labs. What about plates that are 99% likely will never be shot? The ones going to consumers?
Even here, the plate is almost always north of the advertised weight when Adept's site mentions no variance.
>Regular: 6.5 pounds, 10×12″, 1.18″ thick.
>Large: 8.1 pounds, 10.25×13″, 1.18″ thick.
So long story short, this sucker needs to get NIJ certified and should have been certified three years ago. They keep sending plates to youtubers and test labs instead of getting a cert, all the while even bruh-tier Safelife has four - which is the same number Hesco was suspended and then had to supplant with whole new models in 1-2 years.
Looks great on youtube, but why so afraid of the NIJ? That's the big question. The other question is where the hell they make the things. Buff says Europe, but the address that was on their site is a carboline warehouse.
