I WANT Musk to be the hero he was in the early 2010s. I viewed him as a hero. I WANT him to be singularly focused on Mars and to have a selfless master vision for humanity which all his companies contribute towards.
But according to both Low and Thiel, Musk has become disinterested in Mars. NOT because of AGI or any other excuse, but because Thiel and others convinced him that Mars will not be liveable in his lifetime.
Presuming that both Low and Thiel are not lying, this means that Mars is a dead dream and that Musk just hollowly repeats to keep people excited. It is not far fetched because he is known to lie for the sake of Tesla valuation all the time. It makes Musk's behavior make sense. SpaceX seems like just another thing now, it's no longer where his heart is.
Why would Thiel lie about this btw? He and Musk still have a good relationship.
