Don't know about a deeper purpose but Devils don't really stick their neck out for others, most of them don't anyway.
There's been a reversal of roles between Asa and Yoru where Yoru is increasingly coming off as a hypocrite and a blowhard for all of her earlier treatment of Asa.
Yoru's mentality is to just feign toughness and to just "get over it" without thinking about it , which in Fujimoto's writing always loses out to being able to actually confront your demons and overcome them.
I pretty much expect her to be humiliated for the rest of P2.
