Just bad RNG then I guess, some races I just lose cause my Uma will be rushed in the mid race then cark it at late. Even with 400+ wit sometimes you hit the bad RNG and have to alarm clock to run it back.

Also learn your runner's type stat priority, Front runners just need to spam Speed and wit and have a endurance skill and they perma win races. Pic related
