they wanted peasants to be able to read and write but chinese hieroglyphs were very complex for 99% of the korean population back then so they invented a simple compromise
to make it even more easier they made the writing of the letters look like the position of your tongue in your mouth when you pronounce them to group the letters by their pronunciation pattern
