Sony was a Japanese company, they could have stayed in Japan, hired the best developers, they've been making games since PS1 like early 90s. They could have built great IPs, they just didn't think it would matter in the long run and thought they could beat Nintendo with third party support. They were wrong, lost and now Nintendo is market leader. Power of IPs, baby.

You don't even get what it is. Nintendo got experimental teams that can work on whatever they want. The teams that made shit like LABO. There's a lot of value in creating weird experimental shit, if you fail you lose nothing. If you win and it's a small succcess you're even. If you win big then you'll get a huge return and can expand the franchise
