Plus there's only one orthodox Water law and it's easily the worst law in the game. Definitely get the feeling the devs hate water as a law for some reason.
You can also get the magic altar from the DLC sect, if you have the good DLC. Would be much easier and you can observe both other types of pill furnace while you're at it, since you need those to make one out of wood. Middle one in this pic.
