Whens Scav being added to the OP
It gets talked enough to warrant an inclusion
>>529737410it is only you anon
>>529737410>torture fetish gameeh. does it really need to be the face of the general?
>>529738839Are we really gonna go over this every time it's mentioned?
Citadel is a fetish game, you're encouraged to manage your cute anime girl foes until you can see their guts, we had a fucking screenshot on steam of gore fappers gushing over it
Scav is not a fetish game, for you are heavily discouraged to not injure your expie, as it makes your run harder, and makes the player feel bad
>>529739141no, it is.
>almost everything is designed to pose some threat to the player that isnt immediate and direct damage.>instead, things slowly kill the player and make things much harder>usually throughout a run, these things end up stacking>a game over state usually involves so many problems being stacked up that you cant do anything and are forced to watch as the character slowly diesits a torture fetish game.
if "buh the thing makes it harder!" is a valid argument then i've got a whole list of fat fetish games that actually arent fetishistic at all.
>>529739736dense as fuck
>almost everything is designed to pose some threat to the player that isnt immediate and direct damage.>instead, things slowly kill the player and make things much harderTo give the player a chance to mitigate what happened to them, and there is instant deaths too, it depends on RNG. You can get a second wind close to death too to help you back from the brink
>usually throughout a run, these things end up stackingPerhaps on your first few runs, but once you've played for enough time you know what to look out for and can reach a deep enough level with a good mood and without many injuries
>a game over state usually involves so many problems being stacked up that you cant do anything and are forced to watch as the character slowly diesAgain, depends on RNG, sometimes a perfect run can be ended because of a turret or mine or pressure plate
And no, the fat fetish games or any other smut game will put it front and center to try to elicit a fap out of the player, the suffering in Scav comes when the player fucks up, aka, making a mistake, aka, doing something they are not supposed to do
why do I bother, at least this keeps the thread bumped
>>529740403look anon, its ok to like fetish games.
you dont have to pretend that its not, you just take that kind of stuff to /trash/
>>529740934Nta but Scav looks more like a survival game taken to the extreme rather then straight up fetish material, I've seen the clips though I've yet to play it
>>529739141Someone who just wandered into this, butI can't even figure out what games you're talking about. What are the full titles instead of abbreviations?
>>529746470Scav Prototype, a 2d survival game featuring injures and a moral system, low moral can cause your PC to harm themselves/go mental. Extremely brutal and furry, but can be pretty fun
Beyond Citadel, a DOOM like that's straight up guro, not worth discussing, Scav at least has arguments for being an actual game but there's no defending Citadel
>>529704068>>529704394>>529705247I've given it some more thought and started to narrow it down.
So what makes exploration on random maps uninteresting is how I am aware that it's randomly generated. So the purpose of exploration is to find resource nodes or handcrafted points of interest, everything in between is just filler, while in a handcrafted world the distinction is less clear.
But the purpose of the open world also matters. I think I don't mind procedural generation in games like Minecraft, Vintage Story, Terraria, Favtorio etc. because the main focus (for me) is to build a base and the open world just serves as a backdrop for that. For that same reason I don't really care for the handcrafted world in Satisfactory.
However in a game like Subnautica or the Forest for instance, exploration is a bigger part of the game.
Or something along those lines. It's a bit hard to nail my feelings down here
>>529731171 (OP)>"Winter has come" Edition, and so have I.You're supposed to copy the OP from the pastebin not the previous thread you silly oaf
>>529748901Eventually Milky will get added as a playable character, they don't self-harm, they vomit and go catatonic at low moods.

>>529751041the big difference between scav and games like zomboid, where its simply in depth, is delivery and focus.
take the walking on glass thing for example.
that alone? of course not.
but suppose a pile of glass was placed in front of the entrance to almost every building, you didnt start with shoes, and the only way to get shoes is to go inside a building.
you can try looking for the buildings that arent protected by glass, sure, but that'll take so long that you'll probably die before then.
and then when you are inevitably forced to cut yourself, the game throws a debuff at you along with lowering a few meters and making the character uncontrollable for a few seconds as they go limp (causing even more injury)
suppose zomboid was filled to the brim with situations like this, where you can technically avoid self torture, but you have to in order to survive.
and then after being forced to engage with enough of these situations you lose control of your character and it kills itself.
that is scav, that is why its a torture fetish game. its explicitly designed to create torturous situations you can technically avoid, but are more or less forced to engage with unless you get lucky.
and if you take away the torture system, the game is left with literally fucking nothing (for comparison, you could take away walking-on-glass-barefoot from zomboid and it'd still be the same exact game)
as for why it shouldnt be in the op, i just dont think fetish games are a good way to represent what the thread is about.
>>529751075i never said that citadel isnt a fetish game???
My stance is:
Guro in citadel is not supplementary to the gameplay. If you remove guro and keep everything else as is - game would play exactly the same. This makes the guro aspect a tack-on that exists only to appeal to a certain group.
Misery in scav is not just gameplay relevant - it's gameplay derived and forms an integral part of the game. You are actively encouraged to not make the protagonist suffer, and there are mechanics that directly reward high mood, and this affects your decisionmaking on the most basic level. From "well, this corpse doesn't seem to have loot, i better not strain expie's psyche by forcing him to take a look at it it" to "shit, time to pop my last fent syringe".
>but furry is a fetish, why is scav furry? you could make player play as a human and nothing would changeWhile true that aesthetics play a supplementary role, the game makes a good use of them. They're both gameplay and world relevant: expie is a canine and food with coffeine is toxic, which creates interesting gameplay situations; your jaw slot is much larger than one of a human, and there are gameplay-relevant mechanics to holding stuff in your mouth; and as few anons itt said before, it makes them feel much more sympathic towards expie because they're by default weaker and smaller than an average human.
>>529752683>and then after being forced to engage with enough of these situations you lose control of your character and it kills itself.>that is scavYou're pulling this out of your ass. Even your "glass shard" example is not relevant, because there's more than enough of gameplay depth to justify their existence in scav. Will you break through glass to save on stamina, but risk having to deal with shards? Are you in a good enough state of mind to actually notice all the shards? What if there's water on the other side, and it could wash the shard towards you, are you willing to take the risk?
Refer to the rest of my post for other points.
>>529753223While it's true that furries are more often sexualized than not, furry is not a style that exists solely for the purpose of sexualization.
Sonic and starfox weren't made with furry characters for the purpose of sexualization.
>>529749421I have yet to see the black furry kill himself. I always die before I even get to the point where the black furry does self harm, not that I particularly want to see it.
>>529731171 (OP)What game is this? What's the best game in this genre? Wasteland?
>>529687343Megumin is more important to me than cheevos.
>>529753223>You're pulling this out of your ass. Even your "glass shard" example is not relevant, because there's more than enough of gameplay depth to justify their existence in scav. Will you break through glass to save on stamina, but risk having to deal with shards? Are you in a good enough state of mind to actually notice all the shards? What if there's water on the other side, and it could wash the shard towards you, are you willing to take the risk?again, delivery.
if it were a simple risk/reward thing like that, sure.
but scav goes well beyond risk/reward and turns it into a whole different beast.
using the "state of mind" thing as a PERFECT example. its the shit like
>well achually, your character simply didnt notice the glass>now you're ragdolling down a 50 foot chasm with spikes at the bottom!>those spikes will ragdoll you again and make you suffocate in a pool of water>once you finally gain control again, your character will be much, much worse for wear and are one bad thing away from suici- hey look a corpse!that makes it go from reasonable depth to fetish shit.
like i said, the game is designed to maximize instances like this. where you can do nothing but watch as your character goes through several different torturous events. purely because
and plans to add a "this character will go catatonic and cry himself to sleep at low mood" isnt exactly helping your point about it not being a torture/misery fetish game
1/2
>>529753223>>529755570>You are actively encouraged to not make the protagonist suffer, and there are mechanics that directly reward high moodi could, again, make this argument to turn a whole list of fat fetish games into regular games.
there are quite a few where reaching a certain weight threshold results in a game over state, and along the way things get harder due to stacking maluses.
most hazards within said games are also designed to fatten the MC.
from a basic gameplay perspective this encourages you to stay at a lower weight throughout and to avoid most hazards
does this make it so that they are not fetish games?
no, it does not. the intent is still that you'll see the higher weights and then eventually lose.
and the same is true for scav, the game's focus is on all the misery crap. the game is designed to maximize misery and torture of the MC, almost everything having some drawback that results in more pain even if it helps mend.
>>529755570It doesn't sound sexual at all.
>>529756919because you dont have a misery fetish.
>>529756963No, it's because the characters clearly aren't sexualized.
>>529757420(said argument can again be made against quite a few fat fetish games)
>>529757465All of those games use characters that are clearly made to be sexually attractive in some way.
So no.
>>529757615you take one look at furry art and tell me that expies arent meant to be sexually attractive to furries.
>>529757692Yeah, no. That style is very rare in furry porn compared to others.
>>529757862its still meant to be sexually appealing to furries.
>>529757916Substantiate your claim.
>>529758097im not going onto e621 just to prove that furries find anthros attractive.
because it should be the most obvious shit.
>>529753223>You are actively encouraged to not make the protagonist sufferYou're sometimes encouraged to deflate in Tribal Hunter, but that doesn't mean it's not an inflation fetish game.
>>529758147It doesn't matter what furries find attactive, furries find MLP's ponies attractive. MLP clearly wasn't made to be sexually appealing to furries.
Your claim has no evidence.
>>529758320and MLP ponies have cartoonish designs with minimal detail. meanwhile the expie in scav has dithering meant to give a prominent appearance of fur.
>>529758492It's completely asexual design.
>>529755570>>well achually, your character simply didnt notice the glassliterally not the case. again, you're pulling this out of your ass.
being mentally impaired in some way, depressed or otherwise sick creates a shader effect that can make noticing glass shards more difficult, but it doesn't make them impossible. better yet, there's a redundancy mechanic that allows you to clearly know where every single object on the screen is as long as you're conscious, if you know how to use it. you not noticing the glass shard is literally your mistake as player, it's not forced, and can be avoided, and a more experienced player will ALWAYS avoid it. this is pure gameplay, just like avoiding hitting glass windows with bare hands in zomboid.
you haven't played the game you're arguing about, discrediting your whole stance.
>>529758640the lack of male/female characteristics does not make the design non-sexual to furries.
>>529759029i played it for two hours and then decided it was torture fetish crap.
>literally not the case. again, you're pulling this out of your ass.hey, you're the one that explained it like that. not me.
so here lemme correct it,
>>well achually, you didnt notice the glass because your character is le depressed and it applied a shader that makes grass look like foliagehappy now, torturefag?
>>529759234>the lack of male/female characteristics does not make the design non-sexual to furriesAnd this is irrelevant to whether it's a fetish game or not.
Your argument is pathetic.
>>529759234>>>well achually, you didnt notice the glass because your character is le depressed and it applied a shader that makes grass look like foliageno, it doesn't look like foliage. there are no deceiving mechanics in relation to glass shards. it looks like a glass shard, blown up by a shader. and you can literally hover your cursor over it and it will say "Glass Shard (50)".
you are an idiot.
>>529759349you're the one that brought it up. i simply responded to it.
>>529759393you're the one that said
>>529753223>Are you in a good enough state of mind to actually notice all the shards?have you considered explaining better, or is your brain too rotted by torture porn to think straight?
>>529759403You claimed the game was made to be sexually attractive to furries. But you haven't been able to provide any evidence that is the case and your argument is "well furries think they're sexy", which would make MLP a fetish cartoon or sonic the hedgehog a fetish game.
You're deranged.
>>529759559there's a difference between "intentionally sexually appealing to X group" and "accidentally sexually appealing to X group"
in the case of furries, they find ALL animalistic designs sexually appealing.
if you cant tell the difference, you've been incredibly sheltered and i envy you.
>>529759741So scav and its characters were not made to be sexually attractive to furries, as you previously claimed.
>>529759505let me rephrase this:

I was randomly going through my pirated games folder, and I found this super japanese JRPG about anime girls with ultra powerful hats that try to change their reality by stealing each other's hats. It was fully translated by who I can only assume were 4channers, and I don't even remember downloading it, but I apparently grabbed it in 2022.
I've never visited the tiny url in the image, but the mega link has everything. I have fallen out of favor of most turn based games, but this one has piqued my interest for sure. Got about 2 hours in and I am not bored out of my mind.

Justify the existence of this mechanic if it's a torture game.
>>529754216It's a problem with vocal minority, as with most things.
You can try to rationalize it all you want, and maybe people would actually listen, but all it takes is a single atrophied, sexually deprived coombrain to scream "I LOVE STICKING DICKS UP MY ASS!" and it all goes out of the window.
It's so prominent and omnipresent it even became a meme among normalfags few years back.

This card is confusing me and I'm wondering if anyone else can make sense of it. The wording of it is throwing me for a loop.
To put it in Spire terminology, "Firepower" is STR and "Temporary Firepower" goes away at the end of the turn. So the card basically functions like Flex, where you get +2 STR and then it goes away at the end of the turn.
But it's not a skill card like Flex, it's an ability. You play it, get 2 Temporary Firepower immediately, and then at the start of every turn, gain 2 Temporary Firepower.
...
........
.......................................
Why not just make it +2 permanent firepower?
>>529784994Because then it can be countered with a counter card, duh.
And also, dunno for Spire, but in Magic the Gathering, some effects can stack if they're temporary, or be applied twice.
>>529784994Some effects only trigger when gaining Temporary Firepower, not for gaining Firepower. It can also synergize with effects that can trigger for both Temporary and Permanent Firepower increase, but at a lower cost.

>>529803576>Anyone tried this one?Yes, it's one of the better survival games.
>How hard is to survive? Not that hard, the beginning of the game is probably the hardest. After you get food and water production sorted, you unlikely die because of your needs.
>How much content does the game have?It does actually feel finished after it got out of EA. There's plenty of progression in the game doesn't feel like filler. There's six story locations. The first one is pretty unimpressive, but the latter ones are pretty big and takes several hours to explore. Each gives you new stuff to research and build. The random islands can be a bit repetitive, but some of the story locations have their own biomes with their own random islands.
Combat is boring though. Enemies are damage sponges and it's mostly just standing around waiting for them to attack, then poking them with a stick.
>>529818245i only played it during early access when the first story location was out, i think an abandoned radio tower? but dealing with the shark at islands really felt like it was supposed to be a duo+ game
>>529817726>is it out?There's even a sequel.
>>529772440My guy I have a fatter ass than that.
>>529803576I've considered it, but as I mentioned above, I'm not a big fan of these types of games if the world is procedurally generated.
Maybe I'll reconsider, not sure
>>529818870>i think an abandoned radio tower?Yeah, that's the first one.
>but dealing with the shark at islands really felt like it was supposed to be a duo+ gameThe shark tends to stick close to the raft, so if you park it one side of an island, you can dive safely at the other side. Doesn't always work for small islands. You can also make shark bait, but I haven't used them much. Killing it is also pretty easy, just tedious.

>>529822029According to Steam comments. It seems that there are six fixed manually made islands for the "story" and random islands for resources.

>>529953945>Are you telling me I need to kill bandit camps to get copper tools? Really? Not exactly, but yeah.
More accurately:
1) to allow your villagers to get copper, you need to liberate the region, which means building a monument (bridge, watch tower, or whatever else), and kill bandits. Once it's done, you unlock copper gathering.
2) I don't remember the exact condition, but to allow copper crafting, you need to level up, but I think it's also tied to how many regions are freed.
You can still drop copper tools and even repair them without having them unlocked, but yeah. Open the world map and see by yourself.
>>529911615You know it's kinda funny, every race in Multiverse has multiple facets to them. The Mantis have the subservient hive and the drug-addled free fighters, the Engi have the conformist hivemind and the rebellious individualists, the Rockmen have the brutal theocrats and the anti-theist outcasts, Crystals have the xenophobic isolationists and the slightly more welcoming isolationists, Florals are hippie communists while Vampweeds are cannibalistic capitalists, and of course the Federation and Rebellion. Even the writer's-punchingbag Leeches, where most are some degree of asshole, are in the middle of a civil war between the ineffectual monarchy and democratic revolutionaries.
Except Slugs. They're all bastards. Most deal in slavery. Everyone but one tries to backstab you in some way. Even the non-hostile ones are sleezy used car salesmen about it. Even their government is thieves stealing from other thieves in a poorly held-together thief-off. The only reason I can think you would hate this is non-video game related politics bullshit. Like you're the kind of faggot who gets mad that you can't say nigger without people getting mad at you, so now you find the Idea of "Disliking someone for something they said" bad on principle. And if that's the case I gotta tell you: You're fucking retarded as shit my man. This is about video games nigger. Relax. If you hate it, don't play it.
>>529979379True. They're better.
>>529946479NTA but I'm thinking of getting into Sengoku. What's the best starting background? I'm thinking of going Archery, but I'm open to suggestions. It's kinda hard making a decision like that without knowing which of these is gonna hinder you most.
My logic is: Some form of combat boon is gonna be the best, because in combat you are under more time stress. You probably do more building than combat, but you're not gonna beef it from running out of building stamina.
>>529988561I went warrior because, well, sengoku = civil war so sooner or later, you have to cap some fool's ass, but it's not that important. It's "just" an XP bonus, and you can buy it for Quest XP anyway.
>>529988874I *think* the background bonus is extra that's locked if you didn't pick it. I went archery because I'm more of a ranged guy than a melee guy.
>>529989780Heeeh, not sure it's a great idea, you usually only have time to shoot 2-3 arrows before the enemy is pushing you down to rape you.
And bows progression doesn't follow the melee weapons'.

>>529993037Oh, you'll be fine, it's not like you're restricted to bows-only.
>>529935594Yes get fucked bitch.
Even if it was only L1...
>>529993209No, I know. It's not like it's a "this is gonna brick your character" thing, but I'm just kinda annoyed these things with games that make you do a decision that's gonna stick with you for the whole game, but you have no real way of knowing how the options shape up against each other. There's other games like this that are even worse, where the starting options are like "you use 20% less blorbglarbl!" and you're like: How the fuck am i supposed to know how important blorbglarbl is in the game??
I finally upgraded my potato to a small order of fries, can't wait to play hardcore games at high framerates.
Can anybody recommend me some fun games like Stardew Valley? I heard the new Rune Factory is pretty nice.
Speaking of "giving you game impacting options at the start of the game": Remember Starfield? While culture war faggots where crying about FUCKING PRONOUNS, if you didn't have worms in your brain there were actually much bigger problems in the character creator already: it's a fucking RPG that gives you upbringing and religion choices for your character WITHOUT MENTIONING WHAT THE FUCK THEY ARE.
And I'm going CRAZY that nobody fucking talked about this. If you Pick "Freestar Collective Settler" the Trait description is: "You gain access to special Freestar Collective dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions given by the faction. But, crime bounty towards other factions is greatly increased." If you pick "Raised Enlightened it reads: "You grew up as a member of the Enlightened. You gain access to a special chest full of items in the House of the Enlightened in New Atlantis, but lose access to the Sanctum Universum chest. " THIS IS A FUCKING ROLE. PLAYING. GAME!!! Tell me what the fuck Free Star collective is like! Tell me what the god damn motherfucking religion believes!!! This is a new IP, nobody at character creation knows what the fuck Universal or Enlightened is. Or what the settlements represent. It truly shows that these people care more about their culture war than video games when the fact that you could pick between he and she was more of a problem than the fact that your entire upbringing and religion was just "you get a bonus chest".
>>530000314>Remember Starfield?no

>>530005914It is empty and lacklustre. The Devs tried to rationalize it by saying: "Well in real life 99.99999% of planets you could land on would be large and barren and empty too, that doesn't make the universe not wonderful and fascinating!" and it's like bitch, we're not ACTUALLY exploring the real universe this is a fucking video game, nobody wants to walk through empty expanses of nothing for hours on end.
It's also just a shit story. hardcore spoilers: It turns out it's a multiverse situation, you end up hopping to an alternate universe of your starting one, and meet all the characters again and the story repeats itself. In your original universe, your fucking wife dies in your arms, when you see an identical version of her, can you talk to her? Can you confess to her that you were married? That you lost her? That she is not YOUR wife, but that she also in some way is the same person? Haha fuck no. You can give her the "Hi, I come from an alternative universe, best we start from scratch!" dialogue option you can give every other NPC. There's also a guy with a daughter, who's biggest fear of doing the leap to another universe is not knowing if it's gonna separate him from his daughter. You now know it does, that everyone ends up somewhere else and that he is never ever ever gonna see his original daughter again. Can you warn him to not take the leap? LMAO the game didn't even think about this. He will still wonder this, and despite you knowing there is no option to tell him.
It's so fucking bad as an RPG man. So fucking bad.
Sengoku Dynasty looks like shovelware, but given the amount people talk about it here, I'm guessing there's something about the gameplay that makes up for the visuals.
>>530006772I tried it and I can tell you it also plays like shovelware. I had more fun with the minecolonies mod, honestly.
>>530006764>"Well in real life 99.99999% of planets you could land on would be large and barren and empty too, that doesn't make the universe not wonderful and fascinating!"Fucking Todd. This is textbook fallacy of imitation. You don't make space games with near-zero content for the same reason that, if you're writing a conversation, you don't fill the dialogue with filler. Yes, it's truer to life, but fiction and gaming should shoot for something more. While real life doesn't have a point, you can't create empty, meaningless art or entertainment.
>>530006772It's a okay to good village sim. The combat is superior to Medieval Dynasty, there's less need for hunting and villagers can be more self-sufficient, as in you don't need to babyed them too much.
>>530007251>You don't make space games with near-zero content for the same reason that, if you're writing a conversation, you don't fill the dialogue with filler.>>530006764>"Well in real life 99.99999% of planets you could land on would be large and barren and empty too, that doesn't make the universe not wonderful and fascinating!"It seems to have worked for Elite Dangerous.
I bought the game and the on-foot DLC, and even joined a very active squadron. But at the end of the day it's more of a space trucking simulator than anything else.
>>530007360>Elite DangerousBut surely there's something that ED does that distinguishes the nothing in its universe from that of Starfield.
>trucking simulatorI think open world multiplayer games go through a form of carcinization that eventually renders them all trucking or logistic sims of some kind. It seems like if a game gives you an inventory, it's only a matter of time before everything begins to revolve around several common issues:
>how can I carry more?>how can I do things faster?>how can I be more efficient?
>>530007251I mean you could, if you're talented. Quentin Tarantino dialogue is a lot of just "filler". But it's fucking good. Blade Runner is long stretches of fucking nothing. But it's good.
Todd Howard doesn't have that talent, or vision to make something that is intentionally empty that you stroll through and then fell like: "Fuck, this is art. This is nothing and it's amazing". It's quite clearly a post-hoc rationalization after players complained that every planet objective involves going through 12 loading screens to get to a planet, landing in bumfuck nowhere, doing the "Sprint, walk to recover stamina, sprint" dance for 5 minutes to get to where you actually want to go (you can't land closer it's automatic, fuck you) and then repeat.
Also i want to note how stupid it was to make a game that's heavily NG+ based (as in taking a NG+ is part of the literal story), but has quite tedious resource grinding base building that doesn't take over into NG+?? What's the fucking deal with that?
>>530007360>It seems to have worked for Elite Dangerous. I dunno, ED had to implement a cash shop. And ED skirts by on trying to be a sim. You can justify a lot of "nothing ever happens" by it being a sim. Just how in flight sim you can literally set your auto-pilot and just stare out the in-game window for an hour and a half if you so desire. Starfield is an RPG, where even the RPG elements are shit.
But honestly ED is on thin ice with me too. I was thinking for years that they have like maybe 6 hours of content but artificially gate-keep it behind massive grinds for money and resources.
>>530008109By "filler" I mean things like stuttering and uh, um, etc. You can do such an accurate job of capturing real-life speech that your dialogue becomes stale and tedious. That's the fallacy of imitation. The example one of my professors liked to use was writing a boring dinner party and doing such a good job that you create something painfully boring.

I was thinking for years that they have like maybe 6 hours of content but artificially gate-keep it behind massive grinds for money and resources.I grinded a Cobra MK III by way of trading. Got an artemis suit and dominator suit. Tried to do some PvE with the Cobra, was kinda meh. Did some exo and I almost died of boredom. Did some onfoot combat, was fun but the pay was hugely inferior to exo and trading. Joined an active squadron, and almost all the multiplayer projects are colonization or BGS, which are almost exclusively space trucking or popping NPC ships.
The game has potential but it feels too single player-ish and empty.
>>530008707Is this the game where you can steal other players' ships?
>>530008924Nope. You can't steal in this game.
>>530008109>6 hours of contentThe content is dry water on plain bread
>>530008442And I still say, you can do both of those in a way that it becomes art, and good art at that. The stuttering, the "uhhm, eeeh," pauses while talking, and even re-creating a painfully boring dinner party if you're good at it.
But Todd is just not, and never will be.
>>530008707I grinded myself all the way to Anaconda back in the day, and then later bought a Federal Corvette in addition to that. Both fully kitted out. That's more or less 100 times the Cobra MK III.
ED has a long history of people finding *something* that makes getting money marginably easier, and frontier instantly "fixing" it. At the start it was rare trade routes, that got nerfed, then it was specific bounty hunting locations that would spawn high value targets, then that got nerfed too. Every time players found something? Nerfed.
Players even created EMDN "Elite Market Dump network" where they could upload market data from stations they visited to a third party website so that players could make informed decisions on where to buy and where to sell based on player provided market information. Frontier asked them to shut it down, saying they wanted to do something like that, and we were left dry until ages later some form of API came out and then still it took a while until it had market data I think (vaguely remembering here) As far as I know, they never released a tool like EMDN itself, so having that taken down for no reason kinda sucks.
>>530009463Which is precisely while they stretch it to 600 hours, by making the grind so slow. So you're excited for your next ship upgrade, more than you are annoyed at realizing that installing this ship upgrade is 40% of the games "content".
Oh also fun fact: Back when I bought my Anaconda, money making and repairs where so fucking bad, that if during bounty hunting pirates actually managed to get through my 7 proxies (aka fuckton of shields) the repair costs for my hull INSTANTLY fucking destroyed any profits to be made from combat.
>>530010015Oh! And if you complained about the fact that grinded out 150million credits for a ship that eats your money if your shields go down, you got a bunch of forum dads going: "Nobody is forcing you to use the largest combat ship to do combat! You can do everything in the game just fine with the 400k Cobra MKIII!" Which is fucking infuriating.

>It seems that most of the active players enjoy space trucking, being trading or trucking for colonies.>And don't get me wrong, I love repetitive tasks and grinding. Playing Elite, pushing the thrust lever forwards, and hearing your engine spool up according to how far you pushed? Feels great. Deploying / retracting your landing gear by flicking a physical switch? Pure sex. I imagine with a VR headset I'd be rock hard playing the entire time.
But if someone asked me: "Hey I'm looking for a space game to play with Mouse & Keyboard, would you recommend ED?" I'd say fuck no.

>>530030424>delta VThat game is free actually. In solidarity with Ukraine, the dev put literally the entire full game into the demo, so you can play for free. Has been like this for years. (and as far as I know still is, at least I hadn't heard that it was removed)
>>529956698Did this game finally came out? What was its name again?

But very "ludonarrative" from what I have played. You gotta be okay with some repetitiveness and making your own story from what happens to you. In any case, putting the entire game in the demo for now I think 3 years is hella based, and I think he does deserve your 5er.
>>530035583In general I respect devs who accept that if someone is stubborn or greedy enough they will pirate their shit anyways, so might aswell be a good sport about it.
I think the Darkwood devs made an "official" torrent download link for their game, because they said, they prefer people who can't/don't want to afford their game at full price should rather pirate it than getting it off keysites. Since in both cases the devs get fucked over but at least if you pirate it you don't give money to scummy resellers and there's a chance you igh give the devs money at a later stage if you liked the game enough and you should, it's a great game
Also I think and there is some controversy about it the factorio devs are pretty chill about pirating, though in return they have made it clear that their game will never be on sale and you do need an official copy for mods and multiplayer to work.
>>530037424Factiorio dev is a bit of a weird chud anyway. The "Will never be on sale ever" never really sat right with me if I'm honest. But I always heard his rational was: "Putting a game on sale is unfair towards people who bought it earlier" which I never agreed with. I think it's pretty established for anything besides buying a house that the rule is: "If you get it brand new it's a bit more expensive, but if you get something from 5 years ago, you're gonna save a buck". Knowing this is the case makes sales not unfair at all.

Maybe give a try to Icarus.
>>530050583>IcarusI wouldn't be surprised if the two of us hat this exact conversation before itt, but one thing that I'm on the fence about regarding Icarus is the premise.
I think the blend between high and low tech is really interesting, but it's kinda lame that the reason that you are an astronaut living in a wood cabin using a stone axe, is because you work for a company that's too greedy to provide you with proper equipment (as far as I understood it), I would have much preferred if you instead crashlanded on the planet and would have to survive that way.
Though I've just read the little blurb on the Steam page and maybe I'm wrong about my attitude towards the game.
Man, I really just want to patch up that Subnautica shaped hole in my heart and I have littel hope of Subnautica 2 doing a good job at that.
Astromentica looks cool, but it's still early access and also IF you're going to make Subnautica in space I would prefer newtonian physics and 6DOF movement. Planetcrafter looks kinda jank. And that other spacegame whose name I can't recall is supposed to be too much of a walking sim in its second half.

Why doesn't this workplace work REEEEEEEE.
>>530085230>I just can't fathom the idea of tearing down somethingThat's the neat part, you don't have to. In lore reasons you leave the planet, and the megastorms completely destroys everything, so each time you are dropped for a mission, you have to rebuild. In my 200~~ hours of playtime I have almost perfected the deployment of a 3x3 wooden shack for doing most missions.
But players didn't like that grind of roguelite mode, so the devs made a "permanent" mode, and have moved almost all the roguelite "missions" to the permanent mode. The mode is called "open world" vs the normal "missions". It does decrease the difficulty/grind of missions, but people seems to prefer it. They also added ways to regenerate the local resources like minerals and plants/trees so you can stay indefinitely in the same area.
Also remember that all but 2 DLCs are cosmetic stuff/furniture decorations. Only the "New Frontiers" and "Styx" are real content, they both add maps, but New Frontiers adds workshop items for meta progression and a harder, more alien map.

GOD THIS IS SO DISSAPOINTING. Same with The Rootress are Dead, you are ready for a murder mystery where you have to solve a genealogical tree to discover the truth behind a death and it turns out the actual truth is that the family just hid a gay person in their family and didn't want anyone connected to him to get the inheritance.

>>530148232DSP is great, easily the best 3 dimensional factory builder. Consult /egg/ if you're autistic enough.
How do storylines in Delta V work?
I've got a crewmember looking for his lost brother, I'm assuming all the names are randomly generated. I've asked other ships about his brother until it triggered an event where I found some corpses from his ship floating around. Collected the corpses and got a radar contact seemingly related to the story, when I checked it out there were more corpses to collect.
I waited for a bit but nothing happened so I returned back to base (since my cargo hold was full of dead bodies now)
Does that progress the story, or will I have to do it all in one go? Because earlier I've already collected some corpses from allegedly the same ship but didn't follow up on the radar contact and it seemed as if that reset the whole thing back to the beginning.

>>530169861Anon, tell me you didn't fall for grifters lies about sweet baby inc and similar consulting firms? They lied to you. They lied to you to keep you angry so you will be their little right wing friend. Do you really believe SBI actually writes the stories? Or black mails companies into being diverse? Anon come on, you're smarter than that!
Here's what firms like SBI really do: Sometimes, devs decide to include people who are different from them, or come from a different culture than them in their video games. And often because they come from a different culture, they hire firms like SBI to go over the script and make sure it fits with culture.
Prime example: When Mass Effect Andromda included a tranny character, that tranny character basically introduced herself by saying: "I worked in some dead-end lab. Back then I went by Stephan. But that was never who I was. Hainly Abrams feels right". What SBi does is they spot dialogue like that, and let them know: "A tranny would never give their deadname like that, they do not offer it as a nostalgic anecdote to strangers". That's all they do.
>But that one SBI woman admitted to extorting companies!!!No, to highlight how important consulting like this is, she encouraged employees to point out how much backlash companies can get for shitty token inclusion, and what a PR hit it is. That is not extortion by any means.
>But SBI made suicide squad Harley kill batman!!! No, SBI does not write the script. They did some dialogue touch ups for that game. Some writer decided on killing Batman, because writers love writing shocking deaths for Iconic characters. Like Joker dying in Arkham City. But also considering that it's a multiverse story, the chances of batman staying dead where pretty much 0. I believe it was later revealed to be a clone or something.
Don't let faggots on the internet trick you into being angry at windmills friend. This is a fucking boogeyman for easy outrage clicks. Nothing more.

This is emphasized by the fact you can play true splitscreen co-op, which was kind of rare for pc games, at least it was back when the game came out.

>>530183007Oh you can criticize SBI. It just should be a legitimate criticism, instead of conspiracy theories. For instance: It is a valid criticism that the word "grifter" is throwing around maybe too much. I too, am guilty of using it a lot.

It's not that there are particularly obnoxious inserts, but rather that anything that does not pander specifically to their desires gets described as a villainous attack on video games as a whole.Nah, they're not overplaying it, usually people who are ideologically influenced write like shit when using those tropes. You can clearly see when someone writes a gay romance story and actually likes it and when someone writes it to grab ideological points. I loved Deltarune and Little Goody Two Shoes but I cannot fucking stand characters like Faerin from WoW or barely fucking disguised political allegories like Hardspace Shipbreaker, Beacon Pines, Donut County, Dustborn or any other kind of fucking story where writers are too busy jerking themselves off to their political ideas rather than making a good story.
>>530184515>For instance any woman remotely capable will always be described as "obnoxious girlboss"This is a lie. Lara croft, samus aran and ripley are strong female leads that these complaints were not leveled against. More recent examples would be the protagonist of stellar blade and nier.
>It just should be a legitimate criticismBy providing consultation and being at least partially responsible for story direction, themes and some particular points, it would be semantics to claim SBI is not at least partially responsible for the almost universally horrible plot and writing in the games they are usually involved in.
It can only be assumed that what would have been a merely mediocre plot in games they are affiliated with is made severely less appealing to regular people and damages the overall quality of anything related to the writing for the sake of their ideology.
And I do not see why there is a need to defend a company that openly admits their primary goal is pushing their silly fringe politics into video games.

>>530173052>Implying its even deniable given how blatant it is at timesYou can literally tell the moment in production SBI got involved with the devs of Hardspace: Shipbreaker, for exemple, due to how blatant of a narrative shift they brought to the storyline. It straight up shifted from humoristic satire with hints of backgrounds lore involving rogue AI's and higher up covering the issue, to unironic pro-unionist drivel with an antagonist (in a fucking puzzle game about recycling ships ffs) so freaking stereotypical he would have been written as a red herring if SBI werent purely politically minded hacks without an iota of actual writing talent. And the worst is how it railroad you HARD, you straight up cant skip any of the political drivel infodump which are fucking constant, nor can you deviate from the pro-union narrative.

>>530187002>Lara croft, samus aran and ripleyAh, anon. These are PRE culture war female characters! Characters and IP from before the culture war started, tends to get a pass for being politically left leaning, or for featuring powerful and capable female characters. Most culture warriors were introduced to characters at an age and a time where they were not yet trained to see "evil feminism" in every portrayal of a capable woman. Ripley would certainly be mocked hardcore if the movie came out these days, much like the protagonist of "PREY" (the movie not the video game) was mocked for taking on the predator as a woman. For example: if "Remember me" came out today, the failure of the game would have been attributed to "go woke go broke" forced girlboss main character. But it came out prior to the culture war, and thus it was just widely panned as a forgetabble shit/mid game. As for Stellar Blade, the culture warriors championed the game, precisely because they thought it was a "win" again progressive female characters. They saw it as an "anti-woke" return of women as skimpily clothed sex objects. They did not champion it because Eve is a feminist icon.
>part two of the postI mean, that's a lot of assuming going on. All sweet baby Incs job is, that if there is supposed to be some inclusion / diversity, to make that not terrible. As for the "almost universally horrible plot", I believe this again is heavily overplayed by anti-woke outrage merchants, who rage (and teach their viewers to rage) at any glimpse of progressive ideology in a video game, and equate not wanting to see that, with the story being shit
(1/2)
>>530191801(2/2)
Do some games have progressive thems AND suck? Absolutely. But correlation does not equal causation. To say "Suicide Squad has pride flags and SBI and also Suicide Squad sucks, therefore the woke elements and SBI made Suicide Squad Sucks" is great for an outrage youtube video, but it doesn't hold up to scrutiny. I have played Suicide Squad and actually the dumb humor is the better part of the game. The parts that actually make the game suck is that it's an always online looter shooter games as a service suckfest. And I can promise you: No wokies were involved in that decision.
>>530187495I'm certainly trying to keep it vidya related. No interest in just discussing politics with anons.
>>530189172You can literally tell the moment in production SBI got involved with the devs of Hardspace: Shipbreaker, for exemple, due to how blatant of a narrative shift they brought to the storyline.
See this is ironic, considering they did not work on hardspace shipbreaker and there is no evidence that they did. This should be a wake up call for you anon: The outrage merchants had you so angry at a boogieman that doesn't exist, that you convinced yourself, that a game that independently had a left leaning narrative was part of the conspiracy of the evil company destroying the video games!
Anon, it is as I said: you have fallen to an anti-woke cult. Some people are just lefties and put lefty themes in video games. It's not a conspiracy, it doesn't make the games automatically bad, people have just put their beliefs in their art since ever.

>>530191801>I think you missed the conversation a bit, we were talking about what SBI does, and you seem to be talking about devs including themes you do not like in general.I'm saying that if a game has SBI involvement it is very likely that the devs are ideologically inclined and awful writers. You are trying to argue that progressive themes have nothing to do with dogshit storytelling, but the issue is with the fact that the writers care more about political ideology than good writing. Therefore those two are not just correlated but have a causal relationship.
Not every progressive is going to be a terrible writer, but insane progressive zealots are going to be terrible writers just like insane zealot cosnervatives are going to be terrible writers.

>>530194982>I wouldn't say she's "girlboss"? That's really a derogatory term by anti-wokes for any woman who is capableWhat's wrong with this? It gets throwing around the same way as "go woke go broke". Any female protagonist gets called a girlboss.
>except for all the capable women this isn't applied to, ignore thoseAgain, I'm not saying this at all. I'm saying specifically that culture war people, tend to not re-examine the games they enjoyed in their past. Nobody went back to 1993's shadowrun to go: "Wait this is anti-capitalist, and has analogies for racism, I hate those now! This sucks actually!". The same is true for Lara croft. In fact: those female characters become a counter argument to new female characters. They get reduced as ammo for a meaningless "I don't hate women protagonists, I liked these 3 protagonists from 30 to 40 years ago!" And the same with protagonists like Eve, who are liked because they serve as mere sexobjects for men. Of course women being used to offer their bodies to men do not get the same hate from anti-feminist culture warriors as women who seem strong and independent, which is what they hate.
>pay no heed to them not complaining about the new stuff that does the same thingThey do not do the same thing. Not even remotely. Eve is purely a character for tittilation. Ripley yes, had her underwear scene, but she did not spend the entire movie in a tiny bikini.
>>530195436Again, I'm not just giving a hypothetical, I am citing an example: The movie prey, which is very similar. Which culture war outrage merchants like the Critical Drinker heavily mocked and shittalked for having an overly capable female character. (which he then tried to hide when the movie was actually really good and people liked it).
Also: If I come off condescending I apologize. I truly do not mean to be condescending. But I guess being told that something you believe in is actually an astro-turfed culture war will feel like it. Anyways, keep it vidya.

>>530197956Anon. You can't tell me you don't see the difference between left pic and right pic. Ripley because she is pre-culture war (hell she's pre-most of the anti culture war people being born). While Eve gets accepted as an anti-woke sex symbol. Fucking grummz was tweeting about stellar blade every day, because like I said anti-woke outrage merchants positioned her being depicted like pure wank material as a win against wokeness.

>>530199536>pre-culture warTell us where you are on the faggot spectrum.
>>530199506>>530199393I mean one of the biggest truths about "go woke go broke" in both movies and games is: Sometimes movies and games are just shit. And 90% of the time someone telling you that it is shit because it is woke, is lying to you.
I can think of one example: Dustborn. A game that went so hard to try and deliver a political message, that it forgot to make the actual game good. (still anti-wokes had to make up lies about it, lmao). But other than that? Eh, sometimes shit's just shit. Anthem wasn't shit because it was woke, but because it was always online live service slop. Star Wars Outlaws wasn't shit because of a forced female character, but because it was yet another paint by numbers soulless ubisoft game. Just like their recent Tom Clancy titles. But those are military based, so nobody calls them "woke". But they're still the same shit. Avengers didn't flop because it was woke, because again: live service slop and just the blandest most generic fucking gameplay If it didn't came out in 2020 I would say it was created by fucking AI that's how generic that shit was.
Wokeness is a fucking boogeyman to keep you watching youtube channels and streamers so that they can keep telling you what the wokies are coming for next and why you hate it. Because here's the truth: If you look hard enough, you can find something "woke" almost anywhere. Game has a woman? Woke. Game has someone not straight? Woke. Game has someone with a disability? Woke. Game has the male character receiving help from a woman? Woke. And once you trained your audience to see every little thing as a "woke invasion", you can point these out in any media that is kinda shit, and say that it is in fact shit, because of the woke elements you detected in it. Regardless of how much they actually had to do with it being bad.
>>530200117>the left just hates female characters. The Idea that we hate them is pure cope by chuds. Lefties are fully thirsting about all the Baldurs Gate 3 characters for instance, which not only are mostly all conventionally attractive, but also can get fully naked. So it's not like we hate skimpy clothes or nudity in general. lefties also loved Lady Dimitrescu if tall goth mommies are more your thing. Or Aphrodite who's also butt-ass naked, many also thirst after Witcher 3 characters, and everyone is fighting about who's the best and hottest in Cyberpunk, another game where you can get pretty damn naked. Many also quite like Nier Automata.
So the theory that us SJW's hate sexiness and attractiveness and don't want it in games, CLEARLY does not hold up. So why do chuds say we hate it? Simple: When Chuds say "Attractive women" what they mean is: "objectified women". Women, who regardless of setting, regardless if it fits or not are nothing more than something for male gamers to get aroused by to remind them that this game was made for them, and for nobody else. That's why they want Alloy, an outcast from a warrior tribe to look like a heavily airbrushed instagram model. That's why they championed Stellar Blade as the "anti woke" game despite it being bland as shit: because it has a ton of women wearing highly sexualized bikinis.
It is not that the left hates attractive women, it is that the left wants fully realized good characters, as well as characters that exists for something other than purely male arousal: Old people, disabled people, fat and otherwise less conventionally attractive people.
But chuds cherry pick games that feature these characters and act like those are the ONLY ones we allow, because if they say the truth, that they only want women to be in games if they are reduced to sex objects for the male desire, normies will call them weirdo freaks. so they flip it.
>correlation isn't causation!

What fucking subreddit did you pull these posts out of?
>>530201743Well, "allowed" is a bit harsh. (most) leftists don't actually want to forbid games like Stellar Blades. us lefties, we just love to hear ourselves talk, and write thinkpieces about what's problematic and what isn't. We just look at Stellar Blade, and at the bikini costumes that honestly, clash with the vibe of the game and the story something fierce, are clearly there not to elevate Eve, but to reduce her to a mere sex object.
My example was not to create a list of leftie approved goon material, but rather to counter the false narrative that lefties just hate "attractive characters". That is the actual cope. Culture warriors want eve-style bikini bimbo women to be the only women way women are allowed to be portrayed, but they don't want to be identified as degenerate gooners. So they point to us calling out oversexualized designs, or us liking designs of less attractive characters, and they pretend like we want to ban sexy characters.
>>530202285I'm not a writer, but sadly "Woke shit retarded" "SBI ruins video games" is easier to type, and actually explain why that's wrong takes 500 fucking words. >>530207414>French(?)French-Canadian of course, actual frenchies have the opposite culture.
>>530204981>But I feel it's still worth mentioning no one rational complains about Sarah Connor or Demoman or Samus or Ripley because they're just well written characters (maybe not Samus but whatevs)As I mentioned before: That is because most anti-woke gamers had their political awakening around the gamergate era. (not saying all of them are GGers, just that it became big around that time).
Yes, those women are not hated by anti-wokes. But in the same way they don't hate these women, they also don't attribute wokeness as a reason for failure to games that failed prior to the GG era.
I already mentioned remember me: A female protagonist black woman and the game failed HARD. But because it was pre-culture war, nobody said "it failed because of wokeness". When prototype 2 failed with a black guy in the lead, there was no huge outcry that it was wokeness. anti woke outrage just kinda... doesn't work like that. And it makes sense. Because wokeness can never be something that "always has been there, kinda". it has to be something that is always new, always just around the corner, coming, threatening to ruin YOUR next favourite video game or movie. That's why the old stuff that had women in it? Those are good examples. Back then women were done right! (Even tho as you stated, sometimes it being a woman was just a surprise gimmick reveal at the very end of a game). That's why nobody complaints about them. How many anti-woke channels do you know that particularly care with wokeness of the past (2010 and before)? No, wokeness must always be this new enemy, coming to destroy what you love.
Look at Aloy for example: is she really that worse of a character than Samus, or Ripley or Lara Croft? And I'm not talking less iconic here. Purely in writing. Is her writing that much worse? Specially considering some of the characters mentioned didn't really have much if any writing at all? But you seem alright anon. I'm glad. I think this'll be my last post on the topic for today.

>>530268596That's just a consequence of technical merit and good architecture. GW uses very little server-side resources compared to most comparable MMORPGs.

>>530273462Would be hella based if they just converted the game to run on your own PC fully, or community servers. I could see them doing it, too. Lowkey, I kinda want to start Guild Wars 1 over with a brand new account that has literally nothing and see how it plays but I don't want to re-buy the games or buy more character slots (don't know if anything was account wise at all in that game and a new slot would essentially be like a new account, but I'd be tempted to use my bank resources)
So I played Psychopomp as recommended above and I can say its just okay. It is interesting, surreal and โout thereโ but the dungeon crawler system is simply archaic. All in all, interesting story but it just isnt for me.
>>530227403>look up some ps2 footage>it's exactly like thatDamn. I played the game like three times to the end and I don't remember that at all.
>>530279351We tend to remember things more HD than they actually were. When I think back on playing SM64, I remember mario a lot rounder than he actually was. More like the cover of the game than the actual game. I also remember more detailed textures than the actual game had.
Fun fact: That's partly where "Everything sucks now, old stuff used to be better" opinions come from. We tend to more strongly remember the good stuff we enjoyed. Like when people compare 80s music to current music. 80s music has the advantage of us just remembering every amazing banger that stood the test of time. Honestly it's a miracle GW1 is still up and running. Everything has been going swimmingly for a long time and NCSoft hasn't meddled too much with ArenaNet's business. That's exceptional given the timeframe, organization changes and market shifts.

reached third layer with 90 happiness and without opiate usage, so far:
knee pouch with almost every kind of medication, some bandages and a splint. always on me, no fear of losing it after a bad fall.
medkit with all kinds of small usefull stuf - terrain scanner, ice pack, auxilliary medicine and a lot of food, mostly liquid (milk, soups, energy drinks, etc)
toolbox full of crafting materials of all kinds - ropes, foilage, glowfruits, alloys, circuits, scrap, powders
large backpack with everything else - water, food, some utilities and tools
pouch and a purse - buffers for items that later go into one of the better containers and crafting materials that i plan to sell
i think i am pretty decent at the game
Is the Dead Cells nigga still in here? This game kicks so much ass and I can barely put it down. Got the first level of the forge upgrade finished and several runes but I've still only beaten the boss once so maybe I suck but that's ok. Seems like there's no end in sight to new levels
Is the Leghugger actually good? It's hard to evaluate how much of a difference it makes but I use it all the time anyway because it looks cool.
I've only unlocked a few weapons because I'm mostly using cells on general upgrades, but Death's Scythe is badass.

>>530298772admittedly i didn't play it so i cannot say. While the story of 2 is standalone, the 3 characters in pic (don't have canon names) are the main characters of the first game. and while there are occasional references and callbacks to the first game, it's nothing that make you feel lost or confused. reached layer 3 with 90+ mood and only two major crisises:
didn't notice a bear trap when landing from a jump, broke my leg. wrapped it in like 4 layers of ripped dressing and put on a splint. recovered in 6 minutes.

just playing carefully is good, i guess
>>530313193Stygian: outer gods is allright, seem like the dev understood what lovecraftian horror is about (aka its less about the freaky looking tentacle monster and more about the psychological struggles that eldritch knowledge bring), but it is ea so I guess you can pirate it if you want.
I find weird that you have to make buckets because they are single use and the villagers need water, but you don't have to make a latrine, which would be a priority IRL for any settlement.

I really did not think I would enjoy Technobabylon as much as I did. Very impressed with how detailed the writing of not just the characters but especially the whole backdrop of the world ended up being. Very good puzzle design as well. Loved sawing off a slice of ham from a clone body to lure a dna altered aggressive fish into a can to use it as light to find the suicide bombers backpack, said dude had his dna altered before birth to produce explosives inside of his bones which causes a lot of physical strain and pain and limits their lifetime to around 30. Those then get unleashed by chrsitofashist terrorists on the city to explode in the name of the lord.

Speaking of clickers: I'm getting the urge to replay Time Clickers / Time Warpers, if the devs didn't have a terrible habit of absolutely fucking up the late-game of their games.
