This seems like an awfully plausible explanation. I cannot fathom in any way shape or form why it would be in the USA's best interests to spend its military assets in a war in the Middle-East. Helping allies is simply not worth it when so many problems at home are generated by bad fiscal and monetary policy, bent on becoming worse due to war.
Your country was attempting austerity not long ago, or at least promissing to go on austerity and calling it 'government efficiency'. Instead, it is going to war now.
