A History Lesson
Present Day
The half-feline, half-avian quadruped Griffon raised her hand to the map presented from the projector and pointed to one of the countries, the nation's territorial boundary. She stood before a classroom of younger Griffons, who attentively watched her movements. "In the year 1007, the Griffonian nation was measured not by its military strength or its immense size but by what?"
Everygriff paused a moment and considered the question. One Griffon raised his hand first.
"Yes, Otto?"
The boy answered slowly, reciting from memory.
"The Griffonian nation was measured by its ability to survive against the odds that faced it, Frau Raschke."
The teacher nodded and walked to the young Griffon's desk and looked at him.
"The exact words of the text. But do you understand it? What does it mean to you?"
The boy looked back and after moment replied, "I don't know." His left wing flicked in frustration.
"Of course you don't. I doubt anygriff here would truly understand the position of the Griffonian Republic in 1007 and how close he was to being erased from the map." Satisfied that she had made her point, she moved on.
"The histories tell us much of 1007, but they also omit much. The Hausmeisters refuse to permit any image of a pony or brony. We can't even see what the Father of the Republic looked like. We have only prompts, which do not violate Their rules." Her claw pressed the remote she held. The screen flashed to text.
