Fantasy at its most clinical is about setting up rules and interactions for the world you're getting a window to. Made in Abyss is the logical conclusion of this, it rewrites all social expectations and predispositions with its own reasoning, and goes a step further to integrate it into the world at so many levels. Even in the earliest chapters/episodes where in the orphanage they have vertically mounted desks accessed by ropes, integrating essential training into every day life, everyone watching at that moment knew that was a bout of cleverness in how it plays with expectations but also tells its own little story about the setting and expectations put on the characters.

Abyss fully invites you into its world and never falters. It asks from the onset how far are you willing to go for the ones you love?
