I tried dark and night but not high contrast or dim light.
>
I'd been trying to play around with lighting from devices (phones, laptops, alarm clocks, etc) but SD always seems to be way too extra when adding those things into a scene.
Same, I was trying to make an office scene with just one laptop and I couldn't get it right. The only solution was to inpaint, but you have to select a wise area to make sure the lighting affects everything.
>As an aside, what's the best way to fix things like her extra toe?
Maybe adetailer with a specific model? I try to avoid feet whenever possible because of extra toes.
