Usually OPs last for one cour before changing it up. There are cases where it doesnt, but those are fewer and further between. Most animes want to have more variety and to keep things fresh. Furthermore, the OP will often include characters and hints at upcoming scenes of that cour, so if a character doesn't appear in the next one, or in the next season, it would be weird to still show them and not show different characters. In frieren's case, none of the new exam mages were in OP one, despite them being a big part of their cour. A new intro was needed to represent them properly. I do agree that the first one was better, but i wouldn't call the second "dogshit"
