There's about half a dozen black creatures that get better without their ability, Death's Shadow probably most of all. The optimal play pattern is just to open with Entomb and Dark Ritual, put Death's Shadow into the grave turn 1, turn 2 Dark Ritual into Xu, turn 3 you have a 13/13 and 3 lands open to cast whatever else you may have in hand.
Losing abilities is only a detriment if you're not running the right creatures for the deck, otherwise it's literally just a reusable reanimate that costs you literally nothing and can even be done multiple times a turn if you're untapping.
Considering the going rate for a reanimation spell other than Reanimate itself is 4 fucking mana, Xu's effect is crazy.
