Admittedly I do rely on the minimap to figure out really sharp corners. It's hard to read those simply by trying to learn the course raw, especially when elevation changes are involved (like Alsace in Gran Turismo, which has some very sharp corners at the bottom of hills that are hard to make out until you're right on top of them).
