I hate it when indie games do the darksouls thing where you drop money where you die and you can pick it back up in that spot.
this very iconic thing, has absolutely zero value in 90% of games because who in the fuck isnt going to just throw themselves at a boss many times in a row until they beat it? especially in a soulslike?
its usually not even about the money dropped, when I eventually die I need to beat the boss to progress so....it adds nothing to the interaction. its actually better to lose your loot and not pick it up every single rematch so you can just focus on the boss.
I fail to see how this adds anything to these games at all, even darksouls itself. best case scenario it just adds nothing to the game, worst case is it will discourage you from exploring and you are stuck there. thats not a good thing in your adventure game.
it begs the question how much money do you need to have on the line to make this mechanic serve any real purpose? and how stupid must you be to walk into a boss room with too much money to risk losing? does it just punish people not paying attention?
