You got close to a realization saying this:

And it's true. It is just an emulation though, a pale shadow of what human beings are made for. The big thing you left out is having children. There are many more that you can come up with if you ponder it more.
As for your comment about aberrant brain wiring, you should ask that if you were born with any other deficiency, be in mental or physical, would you do everything you could to wallow in that deficiency and reject the fact that you are injured and need all the help and support you can get? Or would you do everything you could to overcome it?
