Devs who wants to appeal to a wider audience allways try to simplify the gameplay but it never works, it just makes the core fans angry. In realty casuals don't really care about depth one way or the other, they care about style. The success of DMC and GoW show this. You can have a deep action game find mainstream success as long as it looks cool and has good music.
