I don't know if this is supported in canon with stuff like the Federation seen being predominantly/exclusively human but I always liked the idea that humans are a minority in the Galactic Federation. Like they're just one of thousands of different species that founded/run the government and it's not at all uncommon for Samus to be the only human in the room while she's out and about
