Yeah. Sometimes if the relationship is there, it's painfully generic too... I feel this happens because the writers are copying a copy of a copy. Plus having less life experiences to add some more flavor to it.
Stories being written to be long runners affects this too. Writers putting emphasis on pointless lore over character interactions...
Pic related is a cute interaction from OG. Goku and Krillin just casually talking about whether or not Roshi will tech them, showing they got used to each other's presence (Since Krillin used to be annoyed with Goku), and to the training itself.
In Kato's case she does an okay job currently, but for the most part it's nothing memorable. It doesn't help everyone else mostly interacts with Maple but not with each other. It got better after a while, but it still doesn't feel like they're a big group of friends, and are more like acquaintances who just happen to hang out with Maple. Krillin is one of the most screwed over character in that regard when compared to OG, since he almost doesn't interact with Goku, is never in Maple's team whenever there is some adventure, and him surviving King Piccolo's arc was pointless since he wasn't part of the plot anyway. The only thing he has going are tournament matches and training non-androids 17 and 18, and so far they're not doing anything either. Bulma also mostly exists to help build something or minor relationship drama with Yamcha, but lacks her comedic moments, making her come across as a scientist extra with some arrogance.
