We’re limited to ww2 era pistols manufactured pre-1946 here unless you’re a sport shooter, then they let you have recent models. for that you have to do a set amount of comp shoots per year though.
Alternative is a collectors license for old colt stuff which doesn’t require the comp shoots. But that stuff runs high on price these days.
I’m always envious of Americans and their late model handguns the fact you can get a recent hi point for sub $200 is wild. Basically handguns here are much harder to get than a rifle
