These are also my thoughts. This show was mainly enjoyable for the solo travelling episodes. The side characters and their interactions were pretty lacking, and they even detracted from the mood of the show at times.
It barely beats out Mono only because it stuck to its initial premise. HibiMeshi is the undisputed winner of the season.
