To answer your question: people hate themselves. Even in the picture he's trying to be something he's not. It takes a certain intelligence and self-care for introspection that majority of people simply don't have. They don't have the ability to reflect and ask questions, to pause and measure decisions that bear long-term impacts. They live for the gratification of the moment with no regard for the future.
