Between the Dreemurr siblings, Chara’s the cerebral one of the two and while driven by emotions (as all children are) they aren’t swayed by the sentimentality of things like “we were friends once.” I’d argue their genocide run is less them being a doormat and more them carefully evaluating your strength and what it means to get stronger. Unlike Flowey, who’s driven to live because he has full control of his own reincarnated life. Chara doesn’t have that freedom and is bound to Frisk. You could argue their humility in not trying to take over immediately is too convenient on Toby’s part as a writer but I think it adds to their calculating nature. I see them as someone who isn’t in denial about being dead and just willing to observe out of pure curiosity until you pick a route.
