Did they flesh out way more intereaction between the empire and the southlands? Did they explain how you specifically got black humans from that area accepted as normal into the empire and not say Tileans or humans from Araby who are closer? Is there firm contact between the Empire and the Lizardmen of the Southlands or did they just seamlessly integrate the humans and ignore the lizards?
Most of the things you mention are also met with distrust (elves, ogres), hostility (orcs, chaos), or disbelief and denial (skaven). The problem isn't black people existing, it's presenting them as fully integrated into the empire without explaining how or when that happened, and without including the racism wfrp was steeped in for elves and halflings etc in the older versions of the game.
Having the occasional black character, like for example Norscans or Estalians were in the old books would have been better. No one complained about a single Norse berserker career, but putting red beards and horned helmets on every other citizen in every artwork would also have been met with complaints.
