If the game pulls a Nier Replicant where you have to sacrifice your save data(yourself) to save the characters, it would be super kino.

Is the reason Gaster connected us to Deltarune is so we can help him kill FRIEND?
All the shadow crystals seem to be connected to FRIEND and fighting the secret bosses is one of the more significant choices we can have on the normal route.
If we skip chapters, the save has a default state that assumes we followed the story without doing any optional content. Meaning that the SOUL is unable to get the egg or do the secret bosses without (you)r involvement.
I think there's a main story that always has the same ending no matter what, and a deeper optional "meta" story that gives us more perspective on the plot and lets us actually "save" the characters once the game ends.
What I mean is, if you play the game normally, you'll experience a very typical story with an ending that tells you everything will be okay. If you fight all the secret bosses, you get more context into what's actually going on and how you're ACTUALLY saving the world by defeating FRIEND who is causing problems behind the scenes. Meanwhile doing snowgrave is about indirectly helping out FRIEND to destroy the entire world on a meta level.
