I hear ya. They said the same thing in my generation about parents using television and later video games to "babysit".

I have empathy for parents being attacked (thats what it is, no exaggeration) with the cost of living, as their wages buy less and less. And I am of the opinion that a wife should not feel compelled to work by need and that once they are, something with the system has seriously gone wrong. Nor do I find it fitting to leave their upbringing to government education.

Unfortunately, I fall short of having a solution to offer for these concerns. When parenting is such a strain, its tantamount to saying the species is also. We seem to be floundering right now in some clash created by deliberately exploitative economic forces and exacerbated by consumer technology and a culture that looks to commercialized media for values instead of something more substantative.

We can rant about this or that detrimental influence or outcome, but of what use is it until people can agree on solutions. Theres a link between being a competent, effective parent and the strain for individual livelihood, which I believe is the core to why people are just not having kids anymore; its self preservation, not plastics or something in the water.

And its natural for people to take the path of least resistance and simply be lazy, and gobble up whatever consumerist quick-fix is available (see processed food). Unfortunately, this is where its led us.

I cant get behind the 'tax the rich' position until there is some sense of competence in how the money gets spent. But these jackasses seem to think we need a bigger military for ??? and the medical lobby is still gouging the system while the poor get screwed, and we keep deliberately making more poor people by inviting them from around the world. They simply arent our problem.

Meanwhile, the people here keep getting more poor and even if they do manage to have a few good years, they get crushed anyways during the next "business contraction" (planned disaster, every ten years like clockwork, like sheep being fleeced) or housing costs, or just as sneaky, energy costs which drive everything up.

And then theres the worthless personal debt they try to hang on every single productive person until they cant have a family, cant even buy a stable home, cant even buy pizza on weekends during which they are probably working anyways.

Its anti human. Theres no other way to see it. They have attempted and seemingly succeeded in reaching a point where cheap rampant consumerism and inflation are now themselves threats to individual human freedom to prosper, which is an anathema to the entire promise of western civilization, to have access to work up from poor beginnings. This is just naked feudalism at this point.

And maybe you dont want kids. People have their reasons. But then have a plan for home ownership at a minimum. Are you really on track for that? Do you really feel irreplacable? Un-outsource-able? Are you lucky enough to dodge every possible misfortune from fire and accident to health problems and simple legal attacks?

Because its not enough to be qualified and employed. You have to be lucky too. And the house is always working to game the odds against you. Thats the whole point of "2% annual inflation".
