This isnt forgotten weapons so we aint doing cope scar history class. The majority of these other platforms are sole products from a single development team. One vision, maybe that vision is guided by an attached SOF guy or two.
The team behind the SCAR was a 40 man blend of SOF, Engineers and program leads providing feedback directly throughout the process. Since the govt was flush with GWOT cash and was really mad about the M4 at the time the SCAR was a yuge developmental journey trimming fat off things while increasing threshold and objective standards. Design by committee but with end user input. Im sure one guy on said committee was against reciprocating charging handle the entire time but got democratically voted out. Mk23 underwent a similar program.
>Some of those similarities across all of them besides the extruded upper were used on guns before the SCAR, right?
Correct. The G36 and SCAR bolt carriers are almost identical. The original scar prototypes used modded FNC lowers. Etc etc. SCAR wasnt really the first in any of these technologies, but it did take a lot from various Late coldwar/Y2k europoor rifles (FNC, AUG, G36, F2000, etc) and fuse it together into the perfect execution. VP70 with its polymer frame was the first poly pistol, but the glock is what put poly pistols on the map.
